An incident at home - Grandpa almost fell | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's another essay on "An incident at home - Grandpa almost fell".

“Keep your toys now! Your grandparents are coming to visit us. What if one if them trips and gets hurt?” John’s and Jane’s mother, Mrs Lim reminded. John and Jane the mischievous siblings, were ebullient at play. Immersed in their play-time, John and Jane brushed aside their mother’s reminder to store away their toys and continued with their play.

Half an hour later, and John’s and Jane’s grandparents had arrived. Mr Lim and Mrs Lim greeted the old couple warmly. As they chatted excitedly, and made their way to the living room, 80-year-old Grandpa Lim who had just recovered from surgery, unknowingly stepped onto John’s toy car, which was strewn on the floor. In a shrill voice, Grandpa Lim yelped in shock and dismay as his right foot suddenly gave way under him and he lurched backwards awkwardly. Fortunately, Grandma Lim, who was walking close behind him reached out to catch her beloved hubby. Else he would have fallen to the ground with a thunderous thud.

A moment later and all of them muttered a prayer for divine intervention. At that juncture, John and Jane entered the living room. When they saw the adults gathered in a circle. John and Jane knew what had happened and began instantly feeling remorseful.

Just then, Mrs Lim saw John and Jane from the corner of her eye and turned around to face them. Mrs Lim’s face was a red mask of fury. She was seething with anger. Mrs Lim’s face tightened and her eyes grew ablaze. Like a soldier laying eyes on a target, she began reprimanding them for their irresponsible actions. She thundered as she stared hard at her two children, gesticulating furiously with her left arm and right arm akimbo in utter dismay. John and Jane hung their heads low, beads of cold sweat streaming down their foreheads. They grew smaller and smaller under their mother’s furious glare. The two siblings felt regret over the actions. “We are very sorry. It’s all our fault!” John and Jane apologised sincerely, their heads hung down low and tears brimming in their sorrowful eyes.

Since that incident, John and Jane promised Mrs Lim and Grandpa Lim to keep their toys after playing and be observant of their surroundings at all times.

Stuck in the lift | Short essay, story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Stuck in the lift" - an experience I am sure a number of you may be able to relate to ... but in this particular case though, it was a little worse than the usual one ...              Brave.             I had always thought I was brave. As brave as a lion. Not fearful of anything.             Until the lift had broken down.             I was waiting patiently for the lift doors to open. A mother and her daughter waited patiently. The mother, clad in a light blue dress made of best quality material, clutched her daughter’s hand. Her lustrous blond hair cascaded down her well-toned shoulders. My innermost thoughts were soon jolted by the familiar mechanical sound of the lift’s doors opening. If only I had reconsidered taking the stairs … ...

Marooned on an island | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hey there. Here's an adventure story " Marooned on an island" from me - a departure from my usual essay topics. Hope you enjoy this!             “No. This cannot be happening,” I muttered to myself as I stared at what was right before my bespectacled eyes. I had been marooned on a deserted island. The ship I was in had run aground.             The sun shone brilliantly and the high clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. My hands felt clammy. I tried looking for any signs of human activity but there was nobody in sight. The thought of being all alone sent shivers down my spine.             Being positive, I decided to go in search of food for myself. Arriving at the entrance of the jungle twenty minutes later, I was trembling like a leaf and my heart pounded wildly as I staggered uninhabited jungle on the i...

Incident of cheating at the exams (Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

I am particularly proud of this essay I wrote when I was in Primary 4  (10 years old) at Ngee Ann Primary School - received my personal best score for this one, entitled "Incident of cheating at the exams" .     John was a lazy boy. He would always play computer games and watch television. One day, before his English examination, he began to panic as he had not revised for it. John took out his textbook and copied some notes down on the palm of his hand.     The next day, when the English examination had started, their form teacher, Mrs Ong, left the examination hall and the stern-looking Mrs Lim entered. As John was writing on his paper, he encountered a difficult question. No matter how hard he tried to think of the answer, his mind remained a blank state . Just then, an idea brewed in his mind, "Why not copy the answers from the palm of my hand?"     Before copying, John scanned the whole place like a robber on the lookout for men in b...
