Blood is thicker than water | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Many a time, you may have heard about the saying that "Blood is thicker than water" . Don't agree, well read on ...              Blood is thicker than water.             I had always despised him. I had always wondered why he had been treated better than me. He was always the apple of my parent’s eye. On the other hand, I was perpetually lashed out at. To me, I was the black sheep in my family. At school, he scored better results than me. He was none other than my brother, Jason. Little did I expect things to change for the better after that incident.             “ Your brother is really such a jerk. I agree with you, he really is one,” My best friend, Thomas replied once I had narrated to him how things had turned out between Jason and I during recess at an alley behind the canteen. Thomas was a more reli...

The Old House | Short Story for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's a really short story about an old house ...              A creak reverberated through the old, ramshackle bungalow, as Frank and Justin opened its door as stealthily as mice. Rumours that this house was haunted was rife in the neighbourhood. Stories of a murderer’s restless soul unrelentingly plotting to kill any resident dwelling in this house had caught the boys’ attention. They decided to prove this rumour to be ludicrous.             Crossing the dusty floor of the huge living room, the boys crept into a nearby vacant room. Frank’s hair stood on end. The room was cluttered with broken pottery. Old, silvery cobwebs, big and small, hung precariously from an old chandelier, stretching down to reach the cabinet and oakwood table beneath it. On the table … lay a bloodstained knife. Utterly shocked, the boys’ initial bravado vanished without a single trace...

How foolish I was | Short Story for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"How foolish I was" - a story to be told on crime and the wheels of justice ...              How foolish I was.             How foolish I had been to believe my friends who were as cunning as foxes. It all started like this …             I was the leader of the infamous gang called the Mandarins. My fellow friends, Frank and Jacob and I had committed several heists across the globe. We were Interpol’s most wanted criminals.             Jacob Worming was a small ratty-looking man whose front teeth stuck out underneath an apparently well-groomed moustache – incidentally his pride and joy. He had a fine crop of raven dark hair which he parted in the middle. Jacob Worming was the brains in the team – his deep set eyes could burrow deep into your deep...

A punishing incident | Short Story for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Have you ever experienced (probably yes?) a most unforgettable incident which served as a hard lesson in your life? Well, here is a story about "A punishing incident" ...           The day was indeed beautiful.          I had managed to persuade Mother to let me go to East Coast Park to cycle. At first, she was rather reluctant and thought I would get into trouble. But after much coaxing she agreed. Till this day, I can still remember the fateful moment of sweet success and triumph. Oh, how happy!          “ Hey guys! I’m here! Sorry to keep you waiting,” I called out to my friends, Zack and Sean. They were waiting under the coconut palm at East Coast Park. A few days back, we had planned to meet up at East Coast Park to head out cycling. Last week, I had acquired new cycling skills and could not wait to show them off to my friends. Upon rea...

Act of Bravery | unfinished story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

I wrote the following unfinished piece of work "Act of bravery" in July 2013.          Beads of perspiration rolled down Davin’s cheeks incessantly like broken beads.   Trudging back home from school, Davin felt as glum as an oyster. My school bag really weighed like a ton of bricks! However the very thought of his favourite dish that his mother had promised to cook for him, awaiting him at home, reenergized his flagging spirits. “The teacher really gives lots of homework. The load of homework is indeed superfluous!” Davin muttered to himself grumpily.          With the sun blazing down mercilessly from the azure blue sky and onto the fast wilting walking figure, Davin suddenly caught a strong whiff of smoke. What is this? At that juncture, a shrill cry for help sent Davin reeling from his thoughts and back into the reality of the present. To his utmost horror, Davin froze in his tracks, ope...

Incident with an angry old man | Short descriptive story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is a short descriptive excerpt on the "Incident with  an angry old man" An ear-piercing smash, sounding like the shattering of glass, penetrated the laidback air surrounding old Mr Lim’s house. The boys gasped in horror. They started to regret their act of sneaking into Mr Lim’s garden to have a game of football. Frank had kicked the ball so hard that it had smashed a window shattering it into pieces. He now stood rooted to the ground not knowing what to make of the situation.             “Who kicked the ball and caused it to smash my window?” Old Mr Lim’s voice was cold and hard. He came out of his house, his face scarlet with fury. If looks could kill, Frank would have been six feet under. Old Mr Lim was a tall, solid chunk of a man, the kind that chopped phonebooks into half for fun. His silver grey hair seemed to stand up like a porcupine, as if they were seething with rage too. Glaring at the boys, Justin...

A lesson learnt | Primary School Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"A lesson learnt" - my next essay may ring a bell with some of you readers ;-)             The computer emitted a loud ka-boom.             I was playing the latest PC game “Call of Duty Black Ops 2”. The game was rather enthralling and I was glued to my seat for hours upon end. My face was as cheery as a sunbeam and I exclaimed happily, “Ha! Ha! This level is so easy!” Grinning from ear to ear, I continued playing. Time seemed to fly by even without me realising it. Dusk has set and darkness soon engulfed us.             “Sean, come out for dinner! I have cooked your favourite crispy chicken wings!” Mother’s call seemed to express a motive to stop me from playing and to come out for dinner. However, my irritated reply reverberated around the house. “Just wait a few more seconds!” “All right! But please come ou...
