An Unwelcome Visitor | English Essay for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

An Unwelcome Visitor From my archives ...           Bitter.          Albert and I were not the best of brothers. From childhood, Albert had always been the black sheep of the family. He always got into fights at school and barely made the cut at any exam he did. I was different. Very different. I passed my exams with flying colours and was the apple of our parents’ eyes. As such, Albert grew green-eyed and as envious as a Spaniard. He always bullied me at school with his gang of friends, turning my peers against me with malicious rumours. However, that was not satisfactory enough for him. Growing up, Albert constantly harassed me. However, I did not expect things to turn for the worse that fateful day.          Sarah and I plopped onto our brown leather sofa. Our eyes were fixed on the television screen as it flashed scenes from “Dracula Untold”. Sa...

Act of Bravery | unfinished story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

I wrote the following unfinished piece of work "Act of bravery" in July 2013.          Beads of perspiration rolled down Davin’s cheeks incessantly like broken beads.   Trudging back home from school, Davin felt as glum as an oyster. My school bag really weighed like a ton of bricks! However the very thought of his favourite dish that his mother had promised to cook for him, awaiting him at home, reenergized his flagging spirits. “The teacher really gives lots of homework. The load of homework is indeed superfluous!” Davin muttered to himself grumpily.          With the sun blazing down mercilessly from the azure blue sky and onto the fast wilting walking figure, Davin suddenly caught a strong whiff of smoke. What is this? At that juncture, a shrill cry for help sent Davin reeling from his thoughts and back into the reality of the present. To his utmost horror, Davin froze in his tracks, ope...

Birthday … the day was (supposed to) to be fun … | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

A rather unexpected turn in events ... "Birthday … the day was (supposed to) to be fun … " - an essay I did up during class at Ngee Ann Primary School.      The day was going to be fun!      I was preparing for my birthday that day with my parents and my younger brother, Matthew, and my younger sister, Allison. "Justin, when are we going to throw the party?" Matthew asked, exhilaration bubbling out from him like bubbles from a soda bottle.      "Soon," I replied and threw a smile at Matthew.      In next to no time, we had decorated the whole entire house with colourful decorations and finished the task of preparing the scrumptious food. I grinned smugly, for I, the birthday boy, had done my part in preparing for the party!      Knock! Knock! Was there someone at the door? As soon as I opened the door, I saw my friends' beaming faces. They were indeed as cheery as sunbeams...

The Family Outing - an incident to remember | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Family outings are supposed to be experiences filled with fun. However, a twist came into being with the following essay "The Family Outing - an incident to remember" .     A family outing.     That is what we are going to do now – to leave our house for our camping site at the East Coast Park. “Hurry up Amy or else I shall inform Father to leave without you!” Evan, my little brother, hollered at me impatiently at the top of his voice. I laced up the last of my shoe laces and comfortably seated myself into my father’s ultimate driving machine – his BMW 730i.     Just before the school holidays in June started, Mother suggested that we ought to head out for a camping trip at East Coast Park. She highlighted that this would not only bring us together under the canopy of nature but also help us to bond as a family. It was not long before Mother and Father began purchasing the necessary camping gear needed for our upcoming...

Fire in the kitchen | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

My next essay is about an incident about a "fire in the kitchen" .      “Will father be back from work early today?” Jane looked up and enquired from her mother while cutting some vegetables.   “I think so …,” “Ouch! My finger!” Jane yelled out frantically as her face twisted into a grimace of pain.      Seeing crimson red blood oozing out from the cut in Jane’s finger, her mother was initially immobilised with fear and her face turned ashen and her legs jelly-like .   Regaining her composure moments later , Jane’s mother ran helter-skelter to get a bandage from her bedroom.   She left the wok unattended.   As she applied antiseptic onto the wound, she was glad to see Jane smiling broadly once again.   Seeing her smile put her at ease.      At that juncture, a burning smell flooded their nostrils .  One whiff of the smoky air and Jane’s mother immediately jolted up in stark realisation .   “Oh no, th...
