Here is an essay on "A severe car accident", written when I was in Primary Four (10 year old).
Blurry-eyed, Mr Tan woke up and wondered aloud, “What is the
time now?” On seeing the time on his alarm clock, he jolted up in shock. It was
seven in the morning! In a split second, he dashed to the bathroom.
Finishing his shower, Mr Tan dressed into his work clothes
and whooshed off to the dining room. Mrs Tan was as busy as a bee in the
kitchen preparing breakfast. At that moment, Mrs Tan spotted Mr Tan at the
corner of her navy blue eyes and said, “You really need to have a sense of
urgency.”
When Mrs Tan saw that Mr Tan was in the dining room, she
hastily placed her husband’s breakfast onto the dining table. Wolfing down his
breakfast in five minutes, Mr Tan kissed Mrs Tan on her right cheek and said,
“Bye dear. See you tonight.” Three minutes later and he had clambered into his
fifteen year old rickety car and was soon driving off.
Blinking continuously to keep his tired eyes open, Mr Tan
swerved his car from lane to lane unknowingly. As his car zigzagged down the
street like a snake, the cars on the street were forced to screech to a stop
and their drivers leaning forward on their horns as they tried to avoid
colliding into Mr Tan’s car.
All of the sudden, Mr Tan spotted a flashy red BMW zooming
right into his path. He jammed on the brakes but it was too late. The huge
impact of the collision sent Mr Tan’s car swerving to the right and turning
turtle while the other driver’s car skidded for a few minutes before crashing
into the Angsana tree by the opposite sidewalk.
The driver of the other car was pinned under a fallen tree
branch and the mangled pieces of metal, which used to be the bonnet of his car.
Smeared with blood, the driver’s face was as pale as death.
Several minutes later, Mr Tan was rescued by the Civil
Defence and rushed to the nearest SGH hospital. Half an hour after the fateful
accident, Mrs Tan received a phone call from the police about her husband’s
accident. Hearing the news that he was in hospital with severe injuries, Mrs
Tan hastened to kill the call and prepared helter skelter for her visit to the
hospital.
The accident will always chill Mr Tan to the bone whenever
he recalls it. In fact, the accident has stayed fresh in his mind even after
five years, as if it happened only a couple of days ago. Since that fateful day
of his accident, Mr Tan vowed to turn over a new leaf to not drive when he is
exhausted and instead to take a bus to avoid endangering others and himself on
the roads.
Road accidents happen every day due to several reasons - exhaustion and unable to focus on the road conditions being one of the major factors. Let's ensure we remind those around us to be careful out there and keep the roads safe for everyone, shall we?
