5 Whys I Love Soccer (Football) | Essay for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

As the long awaited World Cup is coming, I wrote the following "5 Whys I Love Soccer (Football)".

Acceleration, simplicity, persistence, fun, inexpensiveness - these five words flame my passion of soccer in my life. I have loved soccer since I was four - playing soccer since I was in preschool with Father and Mother.

(1) Acceleration is one of the many reasons I like soccer. I love the rush of wind in my face as I raced the other team members to a loose ball; or when the other team has the ball and I run up to them and snatch it away. Hearing people cheer my name as I make a timely manoeuvre, I feel great!

(2) Simplicity - The next reason for my love of soccer is its simplicity. Soccer is a simple sport that anyone can follow to start playing instantly. All you need is a ball to kick around in a place like a grass field, sandy beach, concrete floor of a basketball court or even on your bedroom floor. During recess when I join my friends for a game of soccer in the school field, I feel liberated from the stress in school life.

(3) Persistence - What I lack in skills as compared to my fellow classmates in soccer, I make up with my tireless runs to defend, gather the ball and bring it up for my teammates to score. I love seeing the snotty little faces of my opponents develop a newfound respect for me.

(4) Fun - Loads of it with yourself or anyone, anywhere. Not only is soccer a sport great for making new friends easily, you can also play solo by dribbling and kicking a ball around. My dog Caesar accompanies gamely when I dribble a ball around the house, trying to get the ball off my feet when I play solo.

(5) Inexpensive - Last but not least, the equipment for playing soccer is inexpensive. All you need are shoes and a ball.

These are the reasons why I am passionate about soccer. Whether it is having fun accelerating or persistently chasing after the soccer ball at home or in school, I love soccer and always will. Even if I am unable to shoot goals I still feel the thrill of playing soccer. I love soccer because it is a fun yet competitive sport, and also because it takes my mind off the pressures of school life.

Do you like soccer (football)?

Till the next time,

Stuck in the lift | Short essay, story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Stuck in the lift" - an experience I am sure a number of you may be able to relate to ... but in this particular case though, it was a little worse than the usual one ...              Brave.             I had always thought I was brave. As brave as a lion. Not fearful of anything.             Until the lift had broken down.             I was waiting patiently for the lift doors to open. A mother and her daughter waited patiently. The mother, clad in a light blue dress made of best quality material, clutched her daughter’s hand. Her lustrous blond hair cascaded down her well-toned shoulders. My innermost thoughts were soon jolted by the familiar mechanical sound of the lift’s doors opening. If only I had reconsidered taking the stairs … ...

Marooned on an island | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hey there. Here's an adventure story " Marooned on an island" from me - a departure from my usual essay topics. Hope you enjoy this!             “No. This cannot be happening,” I muttered to myself as I stared at what was right before my bespectacled eyes. I had been marooned on a deserted island. The ship I was in had run aground.             The sun shone brilliantly and the high clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. My hands felt clammy. I tried looking for any signs of human activity but there was nobody in sight. The thought of being all alone sent shivers down my spine.             Being positive, I decided to go in search of food for myself. Arriving at the entrance of the jungle twenty minutes later, I was trembling like a leaf and my heart pounded wildly as I staggered uninhabited jungle on the i...

Incident of cheating at the exams (Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

I am particularly proud of this essay I wrote when I was in Primary 4  (10 years old) at Ngee Ann Primary School - received my personal best score for this one, entitled "Incident of cheating at the exams" .     John was a lazy boy. He would always play computer games and watch television. One day, before his English examination, he began to panic as he had not revised for it. John took out his textbook and copied some notes down on the palm of his hand.     The next day, when the English examination had started, their form teacher, Mrs Ong, left the examination hall and the stern-looking Mrs Lim entered. As John was writing on his paper, he encountered a difficult question. No matter how hard he tried to think of the answer, his mind remained a blank state . Just then, an idea brewed in his mind, "Why not copy the answers from the palm of my hand?"     Before copying, John scanned the whole place like a robber on the lookout for men in b...
