Lost for words | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Lost for words" for a most unfortunate and unwarranted action ...              Lost for words.             It all started because of Mother’s favourite book, which was a gift from her best friend, being torn to shreds. Fuming with rage, Mother was as mad as a hornet. Marching towards my brother, Luke and me, Mother stared daggers at both of us. “Who did it?” Who had the nerves of steel to rip up my book? Perhaps it was you, James?” Mother’s murderous looks chiseled through me. I turned tongue-tied. “But … but how – “ “Don’t deny the truth!” I know it’s you for certain!” Mother thundered as she stared at me balefully. I had to endure what seemed like hell for a torturous hour before being let off. When Mother stormed away, I muttered under my breath, “Why am I always being reprimanded by Mother?” I was definitely an unlucky child. Why was Luke always the apple of her eye? Why? Speaking of Luke, did I just see him grin?             It then dawned on me that perha

An act of cowardice | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"An act of cowardice" tells a story of what caused a good friend to be lost ...           Justin was my best friend.          In my eyes, Justin had always been the perfect gentleman and to the extent of being effeminate. Exceptionally puny for his age, he bore delicate elf-like features, adorned with expressive doe-like eyes. He stuck out like a sore thumb in our class as he was the only one who was soft-spoken. Do not judge a book by its cover. Justin often spared a thought for others but unfortunately frequently to his disadvantage. While boarding a bus back home, he would often allow the rest of the commuters to board first. His selflessness deprived him of a much needed seat despite his long journey home. When asked, Justin would often shrug his shoulders and answered with a broad smile that making the day and environment better for everyone was in itself a rewarding endeavor. His gentle demeanor was appreciated by all who came into contact with him. Every sin

Sheer Determination to Win | Essay for kids | Zachary Ong | Singapore

Here is a very interesting essay from my classmate, Zachary Ong from 5R - "Sheer Determination to Win".             “Creak! Creak!” Yet another quiet afternoon floated by as I wheeled myself out of the school gates. In the distance, I could hear the voices of boys and girls shouting and playing – surely my classmates were at the basketball court. With single-minded determination, I put them out of my mind. This was not the time to think of them. High overhead, the sun held the world in its brilliant gaze as waves of heat shimmered before me. With one arm, I hugged my basketball. With my other, I skillfully manoeuvred the wheelchair along the pavement.             Soon, I was at the pedestrian crossing near my house. I could still see the images from that fateful day, replaying repeatedly in my mind – the flashing green, me dashing across the street with my basketball and the stretched, pale face of the driver as he realised what was going on. Then, the dull throb
