Let me introduce to you another one of my classmates from Ngee Ann Primary School, Tang Yu Jun, who has contributed his work "The accident".
“Hurry up!” Tom and Fred’s mother hollered. It was the perfect weather for snuggling under the cosy covers of the blanket but Tom and Fred had to go to school. Their father was already dressed in a business suit and was waiting impatiently for them to get ready. Their mother was hurrying the boys along, looking in alarm at the same time on the elegant watch on her wrist. However, Tom and Fred were complaining about the bad weather and were being extremely uncooperative.

However, Tom and Fred were complaining about the bad weather and were being extremely uncooperative.
Fred
yelled, “Why do we need to go to school on a rainy day?!”
Tom
screamed, “I’m not ready for the test today!”
But their
father, who was getting impatient, thundered, “Get into the car now! If not,
I’ll be late for my meeting!” Reluctantly, the boys trudged towards the car.
Dark,
ominous clouds swept across the sky and it was raining cats and dogs.
Visibility was reduced drastically. Their father turned the windscreen wipers
to full speed. As he navigated carefully along the wet roads, the siblings
started to get on each other’s nerves. Their mother warned them to stop
squabbling but her words fell on deaf ears. At the backseat, the boys began to
hurl snide remarks at each other.
Fred and
Tom’s quarrel escalated into a physical fight. Their father got distracted by
their screams and as he turned around to reprimand them, he lost control of the
vehicle. The car careened sharply to the left. He slammed on the brakes but to
no avail. The car went over an embankment and crashed into a tree. Shrill
shrieks of terror and chaos reigned in that split moment. Fortunately, their
father was able to stagger out of the car and help everyone out.
Their
father whipped out his mobile phone and punched in the numbers for the
‘Automobile Association of Singapore’ for help. A few minutes later, their
mother was in a cab with Fred and Tom, heading towards their school while their
father went off with the tow truck driver.
Their
father had to reschedule his meeting on another day and their mother had to
explain to their teacher why the boys were late for school. When all the family
members returned home that evening, the contrite pair apologized profusely to
their parents for being so noisy and promised to be more cooperative in future.
Scary to be in an accident, isn't it? We should always remind ourselves always, despite all distractions which come in our daily lives, to keep our eyes on the road!
Another essay soon to be up,
