An Act of Bravery | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"An act of bravery"  was an essay I wrote and was featured recently :-) Hope you like it.             Davin’s act of bravery was certainly admirable.             “Class, this is the new student, Davin Chang. Please welcome him as our new addition!” Mrs Phua, our teacher, informed everyone in her usual chirpy voice. Shooting a look at him, I instantly made a silent decision never to befriend him. Davin was as skinny as a twig and looked shy. What’s more, his school uniform was as old as the hill, indicating that he was probably living in extreme poverty. All of us must have shared the same thoughts, for everyone seemed to look at him in utter disgust. From that day onwards, we made an “oath” - never to befriend him. After all, why bother befriending Davin when he was poor and looked like a rodent?           ...

Case of a mistaken identity | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hi there. Have you ever experienced a  "case of a mistaken identity" ?             I shed a tear of pity.             “Why must I always be the one who accompanies Mother?” I lamented as Mother and I entered yet another store. It was the Great Singapore Sale and Mother had insisted on me being her companion. Again, since Father had pretended to sleep. Browsing through the neatly arranged clothes hangers to pass my time, I caught a glimpse of an old lady staring at me wide-eyed. Her mouth opened and closed like a fish intermittently. What was wrong with her?             “My son! Percy, my dear Percy, are you alright?” the old lady walked towards me and shook me profusely. I was at a loss for words. My name was Justin, not Percy. This had to be some sort of mistake! This old lady had chestnut brown eyes and s...

A painful lesson – a bully’s story | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

A painful lesson – a bully’s story             It was indeed a painful lesson for me.             I was the notorious school bully. My friends and I would usually go around picking on smaller built individuals. We would beat them to a pulp and found satisfaction in doing so. I radiated such an aura of menace that everyone stayed an arm’s length away from me. Little did I know what was in store for me …             It was dismissal.             Pupils were rushing forward to their parents and domestic helpers at the school gates like bullets from a revolver upon school dismissal. Exuberance bubbled among the pupils as they walked back home eagerly. To my friends and I, it was just another bullying session once again. Without hesitation, I set my almond-sh...

It was all my fault (heated quarrel between siblings which got ugly) | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is a featured essay "It was all my fault" I wrote in class during my Primary Five days at Ngee Ann Primary School. Quarrels among siblings are very common. However at times, things could go out of hand ...              It was all my fault.             My sister, Nicole would always get whatever she wanted. From the day Nicole was born, my parents diverted their love from me to her as she had cute chestnut brown eyes and toothless gums. As for me, I was simply ignored and cast aside. This made me become as jealous as a Spaniard and caused many arguments between Nicole and me. Despite her best efforts, Mother could not stop us from being at loggerheads with each other.             But that fateful incident changed everything.             “Just b...

Description of a woman in distress | Descriptive Passage | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Description of a woman in distress             Her only hope was to keep crying out for help.             “Help! My son is drowning! Please, oh please, someone please save him!” Mrs Lim shouted hysterically for help. She tore her greying hair wildly as she looked at her drowning son, who was rapidly sinking like a stone into the dark merciless waters of the lake. Trying his best to stay afloat by kicking the unrelenting waters vigorously, that action ironically caused her son to sink even further. Panic ripped through Mrs Lim’s throat, robbing her of all oxygen as she gesticulated wildly, hoping to catch the attention of a passer-by but to no avail. Tottering near hysteria, she clung onto the only thing which could give a sliver of blind hope. Her only hope then …             Her only hope was to keep calling fo...

Dread (almost lost my life) … encounter with a gang | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Dread (almost lost my life) … encounter with a gang             Dread.             Dread because I almost lost my life that day.             It all started long after a friendly basketball match at the Marine Parade Community Club. Our team had won the match. While the rest of the team members had been celebrating our victory at a nearby fast food restaurant, I was not so lucky. Beads of perspiration rolled down my cheeks like faulty faucet as I waited patiently for Mother to pick me up for tuition. Coincidentally, a group of teenagers stormed towards me like Stormtroopers.             Or may be it was not a coincidence at all …             Out of the blue, their eyes flickered in recognition as ...
