Mark the Glutton - a case of overeating (Elijah Wee's Primary Three essay for 9 year olds)

Here was a short essay I wrote about a case of overeating by “Mark the Glutton”.

It was a sweltering hot afternoon. Mrs. Tan had just returned home after buying a number of jars of chocolate chip cookies. They were from her favourite store “Donna Manis”.  Just as Mrs. Tan placed the last jar of chocolate chip cookies into the kitchen cabinet, the telephone rang, initially startling herLike an excited school girl, Mrs. Tan rushed to answer the phone call. She smiled broadly as the caller was her long lost friend.

Just then, her son, Mark, came into the kitchen as hungry as a wolf. He began searching the kitchen for food like a hunter its prey. Mark was pleasantly surprised when he unexpectedly stumbled upon jars of his favourite chocolate chip cookies. Without hesitation, he immediately reached out for the three jars and began wolfing them down leaving no trace except for the biscuit crumbs. He enjoyed himself immensely as he savoured the delicious cookies. Within minutes and he had gobbled down all three jars. At that juncture, Mark felt extremely nauseous. He felt a strong urge to vomit. He badly needed to have a seat and to rest.

When Mrs. Tan hung up the telephone, she called out to Mark. Hearing no reply from him, she knew instantly something was amiss. Mrs. Tan went to look for Mark. On entering the living room, she stood rooted to the ground to see Mark slumped in the couch and looking as pale as a ghostRaising her recently shaped eyebrows, she stared open-mouthed at her son. Mrs. Tan stared at Mark with deep concern. He summoned all of his remaining energy and said,” I’m sorry that I have finished all the cookies.” Mark forced a rueful smile. On hearing those words, Mrs. Tan immediately brought Mark to the nearest clinic.

From that day onwards, Mark vowed to himself to never ever be a glutton again.

Ok, I must confess that I have also had days when I overate and felt queasy for long periods after that. It was not a great feeling!

Til later,
Elijah Wee

Stuck in the lift | Short essay, story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Stuck in the lift" - an experience I am sure a number of you may be able to relate to ... but in this particular case though, it was a little worse than the usual one ...              Brave.             I had always thought I was brave. As brave as a lion. Not fearful of anything.             Until the lift had broken down.             I was waiting patiently for the lift doors to open. A mother and her daughter waited patiently. The mother, clad in a light blue dress made of best quality material, clutched her daughter’s hand. Her lustrous blond hair cascaded down her well-toned shoulders. My innermost thoughts were soon jolted by the familiar mechanical sound of the lift’s doors opening. If only I had reconsidered taking the stairs … ...

Marooned on an island | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hey there. Here's an adventure story " Marooned on an island" from me - a departure from my usual essay topics. Hope you enjoy this!             “No. This cannot be happening,” I muttered to myself as I stared at what was right before my bespectacled eyes. I had been marooned on a deserted island. The ship I was in had run aground.             The sun shone brilliantly and the high clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. My hands felt clammy. I tried looking for any signs of human activity but there was nobody in sight. The thought of being all alone sent shivers down my spine.             Being positive, I decided to go in search of food for myself. Arriving at the entrance of the jungle twenty minutes later, I was trembling like a leaf and my heart pounded wildly as I staggered uninhabited jungle on the i...

Incident of cheating at the exams (Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

I am particularly proud of this essay I wrote when I was in Primary 4  (10 years old) at Ngee Ann Primary School - received my personal best score for this one, entitled "Incident of cheating at the exams" .     John was a lazy boy. He would always play computer games and watch television. One day, before his English examination, he began to panic as he had not revised for it. John took out his textbook and copied some notes down on the palm of his hand.     The next day, when the English examination had started, their form teacher, Mrs Ong, left the examination hall and the stern-looking Mrs Lim entered. As John was writing on his paper, he encountered a difficult question. No matter how hard he tried to think of the answer, his mind remained a blank state . Just then, an idea brewed in his mind, "Why not copy the answers from the palm of my hand?"     Before copying, John scanned the whole place like a robber on the lookout for men in b...
