An Enjoyable School Sports Day | Essay for 10 year olds | Kooi Xiu Min | Singapore

Here is another wonderful piece of work from my Ngee Ann Primary School classmate, Kooi Xiu Min - entitled "An Enjoyable School Sports Day".

“Come on, Xiu Min! You can do it!” I muttered over and over again to myself. It was a marvellous Monday morning and it was sports day. The sky was dyed a bright cerulean and puffy white clouds drifted by every now and then. Despite being in that lovely surrounding, I had butterflies in my stomach as I faced the huge crowd of sports enthusiasts cheering their heads off in the school’s sports arena. I had signed myself up for the 500-metre dash and beads of perspiration were trickling down my forehead.

At the corner of my eye, I spotted a few booths that had been set up for people who wanted some snacks and a few volunteers were ushering the pupils taking part in the gunny sack race. Suddenly, my mind cleared when I saw the grinning faces of the competitors, taking their places at the starting line. I understood immediately. The most important thing was to have fun, not to feel nervous during a joyous event like sports day. Even at the end of the race, I saw all the competitors thumping one another on the backs, laughing together.

When it was my turn to race, I felt as tranquil as the still waves of the sea. I glanced around the stadium and my eyes fell on the much-coveted gold medal that was on the prize table. Instantly making up my mind to win it, at the same time to have fun, I took firm steps towards the starting position.

When my fellow competitors and I were ready, we heard the “bang” of the start gun. Everyone turned to sprint as fast as their legs could carry them. I began to slowly lose my energy. But I was grinning from ear to ear all the time as I was having so much fun! Although I did not win the gold medal, knowing that I had fun seemed to be the biggest reward of the day.

When I returned to the benches where the supporters sat, the teachers’ race began. “Go, Ms Shah!” I shrieked from my place. Unfortunately for the teachers, they were not as active as we were, so quite a number of them twisted their ankles whilst running. However, everyone agreed that it was hilarious when the teachers fell during the two-legged race. All of us were imitating the teachers’ facial expressions.

It was definitely a tiring day. However, I believe that in all competitions, you need hard work and at the same time, have fun!

I am looking forward to share more exciting works from my friends and me soon.

Till the next time,

Stuck in the lift | Short essay, story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Stuck in the lift" - an experience I am sure a number of you may be able to relate to ... but in this particular case though, it was a little worse than the usual one ...              Brave.             I had always thought I was brave. As brave as a lion. Not fearful of anything.             Until the lift had broken down.             I was waiting patiently for the lift doors to open. A mother and her daughter waited patiently. The mother, clad in a light blue dress made of best quality material, clutched her daughter’s hand. Her lustrous blond hair cascaded down her well-toned shoulders. My innermost thoughts were soon jolted by the familiar mechanical sound of the lift’s doors opening. If only I had reconsidered taking the stairs … ...

Marooned on an island | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hey there. Here's an adventure story " Marooned on an island" from me - a departure from my usual essay topics. Hope you enjoy this!             “No. This cannot be happening,” I muttered to myself as I stared at what was right before my bespectacled eyes. I had been marooned on a deserted island. The ship I was in had run aground.             The sun shone brilliantly and the high clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. My hands felt clammy. I tried looking for any signs of human activity but there was nobody in sight. The thought of being all alone sent shivers down my spine.             Being positive, I decided to go in search of food for myself. Arriving at the entrance of the jungle twenty minutes later, I was trembling like a leaf and my heart pounded wildly as I staggered uninhabited jungle on the i...

Incident of cheating at the exams (Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

I am particularly proud of this essay I wrote when I was in Primary 4  (10 years old) at Ngee Ann Primary School - received my personal best score for this one, entitled "Incident of cheating at the exams" .     John was a lazy boy. He would always play computer games and watch television. One day, before his English examination, he began to panic as he had not revised for it. John took out his textbook and copied some notes down on the palm of his hand.     The next day, when the English examination had started, their form teacher, Mrs Ong, left the examination hall and the stern-looking Mrs Lim entered. As John was writing on his paper, he encountered a difficult question. No matter how hard he tried to think of the answer, his mind remained a blank state . Just then, an idea brewed in his mind, "Why not copy the answers from the palm of my hand?"     Before copying, John scanned the whole place like a robber on the lookout for men in b...
