A near drowning incident at East Coast Park (Primary 3 Essay for 9 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)
Here is another post on an essay which I wrote at home when I was in Primary 3 (9 years old). I am currently at Ngee Ann Primary School and enjoying my learning journey here with my kind and attentive teachers and cool friends. Hope you enjoy this essay!
The East
Coast Park had beautiful scenery. It was one where birds would be seen chirping
merrily. It was a tranquil Saturday morning. Golden rays of sunlight sprinkled the ground. Cynthia, together
with her best friends, Sally and James, were skipping excitedly at the East
Coast Park. They were beaming with
happiness.
Unexpectedly,
black clouds gathered in the sky. At the same time, the wind was whispering dismally through the swaying trees. A flash of lightning streaked across the
sky and this was followed by light rain. A few minutes later, raindrops fell like a thousand silver
needles, forming ripples on lakes and puddles.
At that
juncture, the loud rumble of thunder
sounded out, sending shivers down the spines of Sally and James. Cynthia
was so scared that she walked backwards not realizing that she was heading
towards a pond.
Reaching
the edge of the pond, she lost her balance and fell into the icy cold water.
After Sally and James had witnessed the incident, they stood rooted to the ground, not knowing what to do for a few
fleeting moments. Regaining their composure, Sally called for help while
James tried to pull Cynthia out from the pond but to no avail.
At that
very moment, a voice sounded out, “Let me handle the situation from here.” It
turned out that a passer-by carrying an umbrella heard Sally’s calls and
decided to trail the voice to find out what was happening.
As Cynthia
was pulled out from the pond, the rain subsided. Cynthia thanked the passer-by
for her kind gesture. Being thanked incessantly for her kind gesture, the
passer-by said, “As a citizen, it is indeed important to be generous and to
help people around you especially those in need.”
“What a
close shave!” Cynthia, Sally and James heaved a sigh of relief after the
passer-by had left. If it was not for the passer-by’s vigilance and proactive action, Cynthia could have drowned.
