Children these days have more easily within reach - computers, laptops, tablets like iPads and smartphones. And what do we use these gadgets for ... well you and I both know - is to play games. Some children spend too much of their time playing games; this will not benefit their future in life. Let's have a look at this topic about "gaming at home".
Gaming at home is what you will find
many children doing during their free time. Hardly will you find children
engrossed in reading a book. Most parents like mine advocate limits to how much
time we can have in playing games on the Internet or downloaded from the
Internet onto our technological gadgets like iPads, laptops or smartphones.
Some parents agree that video games are harmful and can have devastating
effects on their children’s wellbeing and future. But is it really true all the
time?
Firstly, an advantage could be derived
from educational games, which can help play a role in educating children by
reinforcing the topics taught by teachers or parents to them in a fun way. Children
who are bored during class and unable to understand certain topics could
benefit from educational games. In addition, educational games can also teach children
new and complex topics by breaking down the topics into simpler and bite-size
sections.
On the contrary, some video games can
have sinister and insidious effects in children. The wide myriad of engaging
video games may cause children to become extremely addicted to them. These
games could distract children from their studies and succumb to the lure of
playing video games. Furthermore, when very young children become very savvy in
online gaming, many undesirable and restricted websites can end up being at
their disposal, literally just a click away.
The Internet is but a mere tool in our
hands. We must use it wisely and bear in mind the advantages and disadvantages
of it. While useful in many ways like information research, watching
educational videos or buying books not found in bookshops here, the Internet
could unleash a great amount of harmful effects on children when they use it
primarily for online gaming or downloading games. Once addicted, children may
not be able to balance their time effectively between studies and play.
In conclusion, we need the wisdom of
our parents to use the time spent on the Internet and playing games carefully,
for much of which the tide turns depends largely on users and their intended
actions.
What are your thoughts about "gaming at home"? What do your parents say about this topic? Do your parents put limits to your time in playing games?
