An essay I wrote when I was 9 years old, here is "Incident of the runaway dog" - hope you enjoy this.
Hazel was
walking home from school. Unexpectedly, she noticed her best friend Alice was frowning with anxiety as she reached
the other side of the road. Bursting
with curiosity, Hazel decided to find out what had happened.
When Hazel
approached Alice, she enquired from her, “What just happened?” her voice full
of concern for Alice. “My dog, Jewel, leapt over the white fence that surrounds
our house.” She did so as she had seen a black cat. She must have wanted to
chase it,” Alice replied with tears streaming down her cheeks. After Hazel had
comforted her, she suggested that they look for Jewel. Alice nodded her head in agreement, wiping
her tears away.
As quick as lightning, Hazel and Alice
began their search for Jewel. Alice’s almond-shaped
eyes were frantically roaming the surroundings in search for help.
Desperate, they even approached a middle-aged man if he had seen the dog. The
middle-aged man said that he had seen the dog running into the park. Hazel and
Alice immediately took to their heels
and headed towards the park.
When Hazel
and Alice reached the park, beads of
perspiration trickled down their glistening foreheads. A few minutes later,
Hazel was starting to think that they might be on a wild goose chase. Fortunately, she saw Jewel. Jewel was
standing next to a koi pond. Hazel asked Alice politely to go over. Doing so,
she was relieved to see Jewel. She walked over to her. “Thank goodness,” sighed
Alice. She muttered a prayer of thanks to Hazel. Hearing what Alice had to say,
she replied,” You are my best friend. Of course I will help you.”
As Helen,
Alice and Jewel headed home, Alice thought about how fortunate she had been to
have a friend like Helen. She was grateful and fully understood the meaning of
the proverb ‘A friend in need is a
friend indeed.’
What a great friend Alice had!
