Quarrel among siblings at home | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Quarrel among siblings at home" was a practice essay during my December school holidays.

Matthew burst into laughter and it resonated through the newly refurbished living room. He had his chestnut eyes glued to his favourite programme on television. Matthew was seated comfortably on the marble floor, thoroughly enjoying himself. The cartoon programme enthralled him with the comical antics of its animated characters. Matthew’s cheeks were flushed with amusement.

At that very moment, the television screen then flashed a ballet dancer as graceful as a swan. Matthew yelped out in total surprise. He was flabbergasted that his sister, Jane had the remote control in her right hand. Matthew went hysterical with rage and yelled at Jane, “Give me the remote control!” Like a spoilt brat, Jane pulled a sullen face and replied tormentously, “Too bad. If you want the remote control, you have to try get it from me.” Like a matador about to be attacked by a raging bull, Matthew dashed forward and pounced on Jane. A heated fistfight ensued and they kept hurling vulgarities at each other.

Without Matthew and Jane realizing, the television channel had been changed to the news channel. It turned out that their father, Mr Lim who had changed the channel when he witnessed his two children in a brawl. He broke them apart, reprimanded them and told them to go to their rooms. Matthew and Jane clenched their teeth. Annoyed, they walked to their rooms with their heads down. Half an hour later, Mr Lim went into Matthew and Jane’s room. Mr Lim’s face was a red mask of fury as he was totally enraged by the incident. He reprimanded Matthew and Jane. Once again his eyes darted fire. Matthew and Jane trembled in fear and were actually remorseful and regretted what they had done. They pleaded with Mr Lim, saying, “Please forgive us, Father. We shall try not to be so aggressive in the future.” Tears brimmed in Matthew and Jane’s eyes as they spoke these words. After hearing their apology, Mr Lim’s heart softened almost immediately. He had calmed down and forgave Matthew and Jane for their impulsive behavior.

From that incident, Matthew and Jane vowed never to fight again. They also finally understood the meaning of the saying “A fault confessed is half-redressed”.

Stuck in the lift | Short essay, story for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"Stuck in the lift" - an experience I am sure a number of you may be able to relate to ... but in this particular case though, it was a little worse than the usual one ...              Brave.             I had always thought I was brave. As brave as a lion. Not fearful of anything.             Until the lift had broken down.             I was waiting patiently for the lift doors to open. A mother and her daughter waited patiently. The mother, clad in a light blue dress made of best quality material, clutched her daughter’s hand. Her lustrous blond hair cascaded down her well-toned shoulders. My innermost thoughts were soon jolted by the familiar mechanical sound of the lift’s doors opening. If only I had reconsidered taking the stairs … ...

Marooned on an island | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Hey there. Here's an adventure story " Marooned on an island" from me - a departure from my usual essay topics. Hope you enjoy this!             “No. This cannot be happening,” I muttered to myself as I stared at what was right before my bespectacled eyes. I had been marooned on a deserted island. The ship I was in had run aground.             The sun shone brilliantly and the high clouds drifted across the clear blue sky. My hands felt clammy. I tried looking for any signs of human activity but there was nobody in sight. The thought of being all alone sent shivers down my spine.             Being positive, I decided to go in search of food for myself. Arriving at the entrance of the jungle twenty minutes later, I was trembling like a leaf and my heart pounded wildly as I staggered uninhabited jungle on the i...

Incident of cheating at the exams (Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

I am particularly proud of this essay I wrote when I was in Primary 4  (10 years old) at Ngee Ann Primary School - received my personal best score for this one, entitled "Incident of cheating at the exams" .     John was a lazy boy. He would always play computer games and watch television. One day, before his English examination, he began to panic as he had not revised for it. John took out his textbook and copied some notes down on the palm of his hand.     The next day, when the English examination had started, their form teacher, Mrs Ong, left the examination hall and the stern-looking Mrs Lim entered. As John was writing on his paper, he encountered a difficult question. No matter how hard he tried to think of the answer, his mind remained a blank state . Just then, an idea brewed in his mind, "Why not copy the answers from the palm of my hand?"     Before copying, John scanned the whole place like a robber on the lookout for men in b...
