An Enjoyable School Sports Day | Essay for 10 year olds | Kooi Xiu Min | Singapore

Here is another wonderful piece of work from my Ngee Ann Primary School classmate, Kooi Xiu Min - entitled "An Enjoyable School Sports Day" .             “Come on, Xiu Min! You can do it!” I muttered over and over again to myself. It was a marvellous Monday morning and it was sports day. The sky was dyed a bright cerulean and puffy white clouds drifted by every now and then. Despite being in that lovely surrounding, I had butterflies in my stomach as I faced the huge crowd of sports enthusiasts cheering their heads off in the school’s sports arena . I had signed myself up for the 500-metre dash and beads of perspiration were trickling down my forehead.             At the corner of my eye, I spotted a few booths that had been set up for people who wanted some snacks and a few volunteers were ushering the pupils taking part in the gunny sack race. Suddenly, my mind cleared when I saw the grinning faces of the competitors, taking their places at the s

My Ultimate Moment (in sport) | Essay for 10 year olds | Stephanie Luong | Singapore

Please welcome another of my Ngee Ann Primary School classmate, Stephanie Luong, in joining our community of young writers in my blog. Here is her first published essay "My ultimate moment (in sport)" .             The moment was finally here. It was now, or never. I had to win the trophy in order to prove myself worthy, and a small part of me wanted the wipe the smirk off my rival’s face, Mackenzie, as I knew how much that girl had yearned for that trophy. As all the participants gathered at the starting line, I looked up at the sea of faces and finally spotted my friends who were waving frantically and giving me the thumbs-up . I gave them a sly smile, took a deep breath, and walked towards the starting line. The arena was filled with people chatting enthusiastically. The mascots from the different houses were all doing their best to encourage the participants. Since I was representing the Yellow House, which was the best team so far, I was determin

A Family Outing | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is an essay on "a family outing" .             Whenever I sum up these words in my mind, they would remind me of the memorable camping trip my family and I had last month during the school holidays …             “Hooray! We are going for a camping trip!” Evan, my brother, hollered impatiently at me at the top of his voice. I tied the last knot of my shoe laces and entered my father’s ultimate driving machine - his BMW 730i. Preparations had been made. Both Mother and Father were as busy as bees, purchasing the necessary camping gear. They enthusiastically made plans as to where to camp too. As we headed for our campsite at Bishan Park, Evan had some ants crawl up his pants and he could not stop fidgeting throughout the entire journey. Evan had been awaiting this day for as long as I can remember.             On reaching Bishan Park, we got out of Father’s car, our faces were as cheery as sunbeams. From the corner of his eye, Evan spotted a lake with the wa

National Day Parade | Essay for 8 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

As Singapore's independence day, National Day (9 August), is fast approaching, I dug up an essay I wrote when I was 8 years old on "National Day Parade" .           Last Sunday was National Day.   John and his family went to watch the National Day Parade.   There were many families and young children wearing red and white clothing.   It was a nationwide celebration.           The first parade was an army of soldiers marching proudly in their military uniforms.   They were dressed smartly and were carrying their shiny rifles.   The whole place was a sea of red and white , the colours of the Singapore flag.   It was an exciting event.           Flags were raised and fluttering vigorously in the wind.   John and his family enjoyed themselves tremendously that evening and had a great time there.   John was left awestruck and he was very proud to be a Singaporean, a part of such a superb nation. Visit to an Old Folks' Home Version 2 | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is another version of "Visit to an Old Folks' Home" which I did up when I was 9 years old (Primary three grade in Singapore).              “Yay!” one of Mike’s friends, Tom, exclaimed excitedly.   “We are going to an old folks’ home.”   Mike and his friends had volunteered to go on a trip to the old folks’ home as part of their school’s Community Involvement Programme.   The pupils were all bubbling with excitement as it was their first visit to an old folks’ home.   After their teacher, Mrs Lim had briefed them about the activities that were for the day, they were soon en route to St Michael’s Old Folks’ Home.                Half an hour of a smooth bus journey and they arrived at their destination at 2pm sharp.   After everyone had alighted and assembled in front of the school bus, their teacher, Mrs Lim, gave the pupils a second briefing on their upcoming performance for the elderly at the old folks’ home.   After that, the pupils were whisked off to th
