The Old House | Short Story for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's a really short story about an old house ...              A creak reverberated through the old, ramshackle bungalow, as Frank and Justin opened its door as stealthily as mice. Rumours that this house was haunted was rife in the neighbourhood. Stories of a murderer’s restless soul unrelentingly plotting to kill any resident dwelling in this house had caught the boys’ attention. They decided to prove this rumour to be ludicrous.             Crossing the dusty floor of the huge living room, the boys crept into a nearby vacant room. Frank’s hair stood on end. The room was cluttered with broken pottery. Old, silvery cobwebs, big and small, hung precariously from an old chandelier, stretching down to reach the cabinet and oakwood table beneath it. On the table … lay a bloodstained knife. Utterly shocked, the boys’ initial bravado vanished without a single trace...

Never be late again! | Primary Four (10 year old) | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's a piece of work I did up when I was in Primary Four (10 years old) " Never be late again! Primary Four work" . “Never be late again! Understand me?” stern words of Serene’s teacher, Mrs Ann echoed in her mind as she pasted a note to remind herself never to be late ever again. She had learnt a valuable lesson that day. It was a Tuesday morning. The sun bathed the ground with warmth and sunlight. The streets were bustling with vehicles as parents ferried their children to school before proceeding to the office. Serene’s alarm clock rang incessantly, signaling the start of yet another routine school day. Serene woke up with a jolt. On noticing that it was seven o’clock, Serene’s face turned as pale as death. At that moment, her jaw fell in utter shock. After that, Serene whooshed off to the bathroom as quick as a wink finished her shower. Serene hastily dressed up into her school uniform and tore down the stairs. Her mother, Mrs Gan, who was tapping her foot i...

A Severe Car Accident | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is an essay on "A severe car accident" , written when I was in Primary Four (10 year old). Blurry-eyed, Mr Tan woke up and wondered aloud, “What is the time now?” On seeing the time on his alarm clock, he jolted up in shock. It was seven in the morning! In a split second, he dashed to the bathroom. Finishing his shower, Mr Tan dressed into his work clothes and whooshed off to the dining room. Mrs Tan was as busy as a bee in the kitchen preparing breakfast. At that moment, Mrs Tan spotted Mr Tan at the corner of her navy blue eyes and said, “You really need to have a sense of urgency.” When Mrs Tan saw that Mr Tan was in the dining room, she hastily placed her husband’s breakfast onto the dining table. Wolfing down his breakfast in five minutes, Mr Tan kissed Mrs Tan on her right cheek and said, “Bye dear. See you tonight.” Three minutes later and he had clambered into his fifteen year old rickety car and was soon driving off. Blinking continuously to...

A Foolish Act - Primary Two essay for 8 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore

I for one, like any growing up kid, have got myself into a number of incidents which really got me into deep trouble. Here is an essay about "A Foolish Act" , I wrote during my Primary Two ( 8 years old) days in Singapore . It was a Saturday afternoon. Tom was at a loose end after completing his work earlier. He decided to watch his favourite Spiderman television program which was showing every Saturday afternoon. He turned on the television and started watching Spiderman in action. Tom imagined that he could climb up the door grilles, like Spiderman. Tom turned off the television and started to climb up the door grilles. Just as he was about to reach the top, his foot slipped on one of the grilles and he fell onto the hard floor with a loud thud . Tom shouted in agony and pain . His shouts woke up his parents who were taking their afternoon nap. When they saw Tom crying at the foot of the door grilles, Tom’s parents rushed ...

Art Contest at the Park (Primary 2 Essay for 8 year olds by Elijah Wee, Singapore)

Here is a composition I wrote when I was in Primary 2 (8 years old) in Ngee Ann Primary School . I did this as part of my practice at home to hone my writing skills. Art Contest at the Park There was an Art Contest at the pack today.  Tom was among the many contestants who took part in it. His parents brought him to a shady sport at the park.  With his paint brushes, Tom painted the beautiful scenery around them.                    After Tom had finished his painting, he handed it to the organizer.  After all the art pieces had been submitted, the judges started to select the winning pieces. Tom won the first prize!  When he went up the stage to receive the prize, his father, mother, sister and cousins cheered for him.  Tom was beaming with pride that he had won the Art Competition. Well, I must admit I am not good in art. Have you won ...

History of Chocolate - 1 of my favourite (food) by Elijah Wee, Singapore

This was a journal entry I wrote when I was in Primary 3 in Ngee Ann Primary School . I always loved the lingering taste of chocolate in my mouth . So, I decided to do an Internet search about chocolate and write about the "history of chocolate" . I learnt that the first people to use chocolate were probably the Olmec , who lived in what was today's South East Mexico around 1,000 BC, and their word "Kakawa", gave us our word "cocao". But, the Maya , who inbabited the same general area a thousand years later from about 250 - 900 AD, were the first to use chocolate a lot. The cacao beans were used as a currency to buy items like rabbits and even slaves! The cacao beans was still used as currency in parts of Latin America until the 19th century! The Maya prepared chocolate strictly for drinking. Only the rich drank much chocolate. Emperors were even buried with jars of chocolate at their side! When the Aztecs conquered the Maya, they kept ...

My Reflective Journal “School Bullies in Singapore” by Elijah Wee, Singapore

I read a newspaper article recently about a Primary 1 boy being bullied in school . The boy was dragged forcefully by a group of Primary 2 pupils into the school field. The bullies rained a sea of punches onto the poor boy’s stomach. In another incident, the same boy’s hair was snipped off by the bullies. I felt sorry and agitated over the pain and the humiliation the victim had to go through. At the same time, I also felt very angry with the school bullies. “They have no right to bully the boy,” I thought to myself. Later in the day, I spent some time with my father discussing about school bullies . My father said, “School bullies are actually very insecure people. They always pick on meek people to bully so that they could feel more powerful than others.” My father advised me to be more open and inform my teachers and him if I encounter school bullies. I nodded appreciatively and replied, “Thanks dad for explaining to me about school bullies and giving me support.” I then gave my...
