Incident of falling off the bicycle in the park | essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

I published a post previously on "Learning how to ride a bicycle" . Here is an essay on an incident which happened to a person who kinda got over-enthusiastic in riding his bicycle.             Frank’s face lit up as he cycled excitedly around the nearby park. It was refreshing after the rain. The air was cool and the breeze was most welcoming. Reaching the park, Frank could hear the joyous chirping of the birds. Frank immediately then cycled into the park and down the rather steep slope. He beamed from ear to ear as he made his way downhill. It was very reminiscent of a ski ride. The park was crowded that Saturday afternoon. People were jogging, strolling with their pet dogs. A lively chatter from a family enjoying quality time together, and having a picnic at the park rang through the air.             Relishing the rush of adrenalin, Frank pell-melled down the slope. Without warning, he lost control of his bicycle and went speeding down the slope. A si

Robbery at NTUC Supermarket | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is an essay I wrote way back during my Primary Three school holidays, "Robbery at NTUC Supermarket" . “Mum, can I accompany you to Fairprice Finest?” I asked Mother. “Of course you can,” Mother replied. She was going to the supermarket, Fairprice Finest to buy some eggs as there were none left. When we reached Fairprice Finest, the place was packed like a can of sardines. People were buying food, dairy products and other essentials too. Mother gently informed me, “Remember the golden rule. Do not wander off or you may get lost. Always stick close by.” I nodded my head in acknowledgement. Half an hour and we had gathered all the groceries. We were just about to go to the cashier to pay for the eggs when we heard an ear-piercing scream. Startled out of my wits, I took a step back. I took two steps forward as I wanted to catch a glimpse of what was going on. To my utter astonishment, I saw several armed robbers. They were holding knives, which glinted under t

An encounter with a wild dog | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

My father told me a story before on how he and Mother had a harrowing experience with a pack of wild dogs. Here's an essay on "An encounter with a wild dog" . It was a tranquil Saturday afternoon. Sunlight freckled the ground. Three best friends, Ricky, Jack and Tim had gone hiking at the Bukit Timah nature trail around the Nature Reserve. The faces of Ricky, Jack and Tim were as cheery as a sunbeam as they explored the nature trail. Being close friends for a long time, they chatted merrily away as they made their way through the trail. Unexpectedly, a wild dog leapt from some bushes and landed in front of Ricky, Jack and Tim. The wild dog's mouth was drooling and its ferocious bloodshot eyes darted in Jack's direction. Seeing the wild dog, Jack's legs quivered like jelly and his hair began to stand on end. Sensing an impending danger, Ricky immediately sprang into action like that of a super hero. Being as brave as Achilles, R

An incident at home - Grandpa almost fell | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's another essay on "An incident at home - Grandpa almost fell" .             “Keep your toys now! Your grandparents are coming to visit us. What if one if them trips and gets hurt?” John’s and Jane’s mother, Mrs Lim reminded. John and Jane the mischievous siblings, were ebullient at play. Immersed in their play-time, John and Jane brushed aside their mother’s reminder to store away their toys and continued with their play.             Half an hour later, and John’s and Jane’s grandparents had arrived. Mr Lim and Mrs Lim greeted the old couple warmly. As they chatted excitedly, and made their way to the living room, 80-year-old Grandpa Lim who had just recovered from surgery, unknowingly stepped onto John’s toy car, which was strewn on the floor. In a shrill voice, Grandpa Lim yelped in shock and dismay as his right foot suddenly gave way under him and he lurched backwards awkwardly. Fortunately, Grandma Lim, who was walking close behind h

The Food Poisoning Incident | Essay for 9 Year Olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

The exams are finally over (for now). And I am back to publish more essays! Here's one on "The Food Poisoning Incident" . “Mum, I’m famished!” John exclaimed. “May I have lunch with Jim and tom at the nearby food centre?” John’s mother, Mrs Lee agreed.   Delighted with his mother’s consent, John immediately informed Jim and Tom to meet him at the food centre a stone’s throw away from his home . Fifteen minutes later, he arrived at the bustling food centre .   The three good friends were overwhelmed by the myriad of food options .   The heavenly aroma from the fried noodles stall tantalised John’s senses and his mouth watered uncontrollably.   Without a second thought about the unhygienic conditions of the stall, he proceeded to order a large plate of fried noodles.   With the piping hot food in their hands, John and his friends roamed the food centre before finding seats almost ten minutes later.   After settling comfortably into their seats, John began gobbling d

The Fatal Accident | Essay for 10 Year Olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here's an essay done up with a collaborative effort with my dad - "The Fatal Accident" , written during my Primary Four (10 year old) days.             “Oh dear. I ‘m late for work!” thought Mr Tan when he woke up and saw the time. It was seven in the morning! He rushed to the bathroom as quick as lightning.             Fifteen minutes later, Mr Tan whooshed into the dining room for a quick breakfast. His wife, Mrs Tan was in the kitchen, as busy as a bee, preparing breakfast for the family. Spotting her husband out of the corner of her navy blue eyes, she chided him, “You really need to have a sense of urgency.”             In five minutes, Mr Tan had wolfed down his breakfast. “Bye. See you tonight,” said Mr Tan as he kissed his wife and hastily hurried to his car.             As Mr Tan drove to work, he was so keyed up as he thought aloud, “Can I reach my workplace on time?”             Worried that he may incur the wrath of his manager for ge

A near drowning incident | Essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

What a harrowing experience to have nearly drowned - here's my essay on "A near drowning incident" , written when I was 9 years old.              A soft wind whizzed through the crisp morning air, causing the emerald leaves of the nearby Angsana trees to rustle. Plants swayed in the breeze, as if dancing. Glistening drops of morning dew could be found dotted on them. The sun had risen majestically up into the sky, sending down the warm rays of the sun. It was the perfect day for swimming.             “Tom, Jim, Mike, Luke, since it’s such a nice day, would you like to go to the beach for a swim with me?” Dick suggested enthusiastically to his four best friends who were staying at his house that night.   Without hesitation, Dick’s friends agreed, nodding eagerly.   Moments later and Dick and his friends had changed into their swimming trunks and set off for the beach.             Reaching the nearby beach, Dick and his friends applied sunblock onto themselves bef
