Betrayed | Short Story for Kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

I enjoyed writing the following short story "Betrayed" which tells about a heist gone wrong. Hope you enjoy reading this as much as I loved writing it.             Betrayed …             It all started like this. I was the leader of a notorious gang known as the Mandarin, committing heists all around the prosperous island of Singapore. Our team consisted of Jack, John and myself. Jack Worming was a small ratty-looking man whose front teeth stuck out underneath an apparently well-groomed moustache – incidentally his pride and joy. Jack was the brains of the team – his deep-set eyes could burrow into your deepest thoughts and his thin lips were periodically pursed into a cryptic smile.             John Armstrong, however, was the muscle, in the team. He was probably once a competitive athlete as eve...

Encounter with a burglar | essay for 9 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is another version of an "Encounter with a burglar" which I wrote during my Primary Three school holidays when I was 9 years old.             Helen put down the pen. She had just finished writing the last chapter of her storybook. She could hear the howling of the wind outside. Just then, the door of her study room slammed shut. Startled, Helen decided to open the door. Slowly and carefully, she opened it and looked around the dark house as fear intensified. As Helen walked down the flight of stairs, she noticed that the living room was in a mess. Magazines were scattered all over the floor and a pillow from a sofa was missing. Fear engulfed her. She concluded that a robber may have broken into her house and was currently rummaging through her belongings.             Helen decided to check all the rooms in her house. With a flick of the s...

Encounter with a Burglar! (Version 3) | Essay for 10 year olds | by Choi Minh | Singapore

I would like to introduce you to Choi Minh - another budding writer from my class in Ngee Ann Primary School ! Here is one of his works from his Primary Four (for 10 year olds) collection - "Encounter with a Burglar!"             There was a soft click as Mr Lai locked the gate. He beckoned to his wife and daughter, Staphanie. “Let’s go!” he said. Staphanie shipped off gaily, reciting the poem ‘Three blind mice’ while her mother trailed after her , yelling, “Wait for your father!”             As soon as they left, the window to their house creaked open. A scrawny man slipped into their bungalow and pulled a dirty cap over his brows. His shirt was crinkled and his jeans old and tattered. He snooped around and to his delight, the coast was clear. His lips curled into a wicked grin and he said, “Ha!” He had been scouting around the estate and collecting useful information abou...

A knock on the door in the middle of the night (Version 2) | Primary 4 essay for 10 year olds | by Kooi Xiu Min, Singapore

Recently, I had published Xiu Min's Primary Three essay on "The Mango Theft Incident" , which had enjoyed very good readership - thanks for all your support! Do help spread the word on the works on this site to more parents and kids, so we could help inculcate the joys of reading and writing to more kids! Please welcome Xiu Min once more as she presents another fine piece of work from her Ngee Ann Primary School Primary Four (for 10 year olds) collection - "A knock on the door in the middle of the night" .       “Please don’t tell me… Please, oh, please…” I muttered to myself. It was the stroke of midnight and I was tossing and turning on my bed. For the past three nights, I had not been sleeping well at all! I had a strange nightmare of being robbed at night. Suddenly, a loud banging sound from outside made me sit up with a violent jolt. “Who could it be at this hour?” I grumbled, flustered at the thought of having to wake up at midnight.     ...
