An Act of Bravery | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

"An act of bravery"  was an essay I wrote and was featured recently :-) Hope you like it.             Davin’s act of bravery was certainly admirable.             “Class, this is the new student, Davin Chang. Please welcome him as our new addition!” Mrs Phua, our teacher, informed everyone in her usual chirpy voice. Shooting a look at him, I instantly made a silent decision never to befriend him. Davin was as skinny as a twig and looked shy. What’s more, his school uniform was as old as the hill, indicating that he was probably living in extreme poverty. All of us must have shared the same thoughts, for everyone seemed to look at him in utter disgust. From that day onwards, we made an “oath” - never to befriend him. After all, why bother befriending Davin when he was poor and looked like a rodent?           ...

It was all my fault (heated quarrel between siblings which got ugly) | Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is a featured essay "It was all my fault" I wrote in class during my Primary Five days at Ngee Ann Primary School. Quarrels among siblings are very common. However at times, things could go out of hand ...              It was all my fault.             My sister, Nicole would always get whatever she wanted. From the day Nicole was born, my parents diverted their love from me to her as she had cute chestnut brown eyes and toothless gums. As for me, I was simply ignored and cast aside. This made me become as jealous as a Spaniard and caused many arguments between Nicole and me. Despite her best efforts, Mother could not stop us from being at loggerheads with each other.             But that fateful incident changed everything.             “Just b...

A sad twist to an incident in the MRT train | English Essay for kids | Elijah Wee | Singapore

" A sad twist to an incident in the MRT train " was an essay I submitted recently in school.             I started to cry.             Recently, my grades had dropped from As to Cs due to my conceit and addiction to playing online games. My parents were totally devastated by the drop in my academic grades. Being uneducated food hawkers, all they could do was try to counsel me but to no avail. To make matters worse, I recently failed my Mathematics exam; and Mathematics had always been my strongest suit. That was the final straw. My attitude in class deteriorated. I was also coerced by Joe and his cool gang into taking up smoking. Several weeks after my first puff, I was addicted. Every puff was like a lifeline – offering me temporary relief from my current predicament.             My addiction soon came to ...

Out of the window I saw ... | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is a story which touches on the ill effects of gambling " Out of the window I saw … "          They were at it again.          My neighbours next door, Mr and Mrs Tan, had been raising a huge ruckus every single day, for the last couple of months. Rumour was it that Mr Tan had been funneling off Mrs Tan’s savings to fuel his gambling addiction.          Mrs Tan was a middle-aged lady. She had raven black hair and almond-shaped eyes. Extremely slim and almost ‘fragile’, one would get the feeling that if Mrs Tan fell over, she would break into a thousand pieces very much like a porcelain figurine. Mr Tan, however, was the opposite of her. He was burly and a force to be reckoned with.          Every once in a while, from their apartment, a deafening barrage of violent slaps, agonizing screams and loud disturb...

Life with Ralf - my pet rat's tale | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

The following essay "Life with Ralf - my pet rat's tale" was composed when I was ten years old.          The moment had come.          As the doors of doom closed, tears fell like arrows of devastation from my mournful chestnut brown eyes. Just then, memories of Ralf like images on a movie reel started playing back in my mind …          The day had finally arrived.          A few days earlier, I had managed to persuade Father and Mother into allowing me to adopt a pet from SPCA. Oh, I can still smell the sweet scent of success of my momentous victory over Father and Mother.          Entering the SPCA, I was met with a blur of animals in their enclosures, from cats lazing around to dogs barking for attention. However, none of the animals caught my fancy at first sig...

What a close shave! (drowning incident) | Essay for 10 year olds | Elijah Wee | Singapore

Here is another work of mine from my Primary Four class work in Ngee Ann Primary School - "What a close shave" .          The sea glittered invitingly. “Remember the golden rule. Always safety first!” my mother reminded us before dropping Matthew, Venes and me off at the beach. I stole a glance at Matthew. He had a tanned body, jet-black hair and piston-like legs. The muscles on his arms were evident of his strength . Matthew looked as though he could scoop me up like a kitten.          Suddenly, I found myself gazing longingly at Venes. She has luxurious raven dark hair and a lovely face accompanied by straight eyebrows. She has the most enchanting smile I had ever seen. Maybe I could win her heart if I showed off my perfected swimming skills to Venes. Matthew would definitely be envious! Was it a good plan or what?          On establishin...
